I found this on someone else's blog and thought it was too interesting not to share.
Maternal Profiling was listed by the New York Times as one of 2007's newly coined buzzwords.
What is Maternal Profiling? It's employment discrimination of women of have or may have children. I find it sad and disappointing to live in a society where this practice is so commonplace it has now become a buzzword. Here are some statistics from http://www.momsrisings.org/:
Mothers are 79% less likely to be hired than non-mothers with equal resumes and job experiences.
Women without children make 90 cents to a man’s dollar, but women with children make only 73 cents to a man’s dollar.
Mothers are offered $11,000 less in starting pay than non-mothers with the same resumes and job experience.
Fair...I think not!!
